HEAD Named Brand of the Year by Fall Line Mag!
Brand of the Year 2012-13 Article from Fall-Line Magazine
You'll be unsurprised to read that there were nearly as many contenders as brands; no company seems to be standing still as everyone fights to come out of the downturn on top.
For this category we looked at the overall offering across all classes of ski, plus kept a weather eye on other developments. So, who has revitalised key ranges, introduced new tech into key growth areas of skiing and turned themselves around from being a bit Euro-centric and race-lead? It could still be one of three brands – Atomic, Blizzard and Head.
Atomic have taken the All-Mountain and Freeride sector and landed in it so hard it has to hurt the other manufacturers (to the lasting benefit of skiers everywhere). Blizzard will do the same to Freeride over the next couple of years without a doubt.
But Head, in this coming season, will have a truly credible, joined-up offering across the board. In the All-Mountain sector with their new Rev Era 3.0 range, from 75 through to 105. And the new Women's MYA range isn't just graphically outstanding, it skis superbly.
Freestyle has always been a strength, though you'd think it was part of a different company, so disjointed was the connection between this and even the Freeride sector. Their snowboards are brilliant and use the same tech, but always lived on a different planet. No longer - there's joined-up thinking there, too.
The Motorhead tie-up for Freeride and Big Mountain has now delivered some belters. The Rock'n'Roll and Sacrifice can hold their own against any comers.
So, that's essentially four new ranges, plus a key revamp of their top-selling Protection range which now uses Sas-Tech armour, making it more comfortable and effective.
We could talk about the boots, which seem to fit UK feet effortlessly, but we reckon delivering the above in one year does it for us. Head are a worthy Fall-Line Brand of the Year.
